My studio is based on Eel Pie Island, Twickenham. The island is quite well
known for the hotel in which the Rolling Stones and various other artists
played, although the hotel no longer exists, there is still a large artist
community thriving here. I and the other artists have open weekends twice a
year where all our new work is put on display in our studios. I taught mosaics
part time at a local college but due to my work-load I had to give that up, I
run a few courses privately in my studio (for more information see my contact
details below)
Over the years I have developed my own styles and love experimenting, if
designed appropriately mosaics can be applied to all sorts of articles and have
widespread application.
I produce one off mosaics in Traditional and Contemporary styles. For example
working in interiors I have designed lighting, tables, feature panels for walls
and floors , mirrors, ornamentation on all sorts of items such as plates,
vases, clocks, candle holders and other household articles for bathrooms and
kitchens.
Exterior projects have included furniture, garden paths, murals, sculptures,
patio floors, feature panels, tables, birdbaths and fountains, etc…
Each design is unique and completely handmade with a sharp eye for intricate
cutting and with a very professional finishing touch. Great care is taken with
the selection of colours and combinations of materials. I also like to use
pressed flowers, leaves, jewellery, semi precious stones, minerals and other
natural materials. I have also designed mosaics for clothes, handbags and
shoes.
A majority of my work is commissioned; clients can visit my studio to choose
the materials and colours or alternatively can instruct me via my contact
details below. I can work to your own design or create a design for you; I can
also recreate one of your own designs but with subtle changes so the mosaic is
still an original.
I use the best Italian glass tiles which can be used indoors and outdoors, they
are very hard wearing and frost proof, further the unglazed tiles have a very
high wear resistance, are non porous and frost proof.
I make use of glass extensively because there is such a variety of colours and
textures. Over 500 kinds of glass are readily available and unlike tiles, glass
can be cut to exact shapes.
